January 25, 2008-Happy New Year! It has been four months since the last update. So I guess it is also Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Halloween and anything else we may have passed during this time. At the last update, we were hoping for autumn to arrive soon and cool us off. That was early September, and little did we know we would get snow that month! Now here we are in cold, snowy January. This winter has been rough-lots of snow, all the time, and lots of really cold days and nights. We did enjoy a nice Thanksgiving and

Christmas. We spent the holidays just the five of us, which was nice and quiet, perfect for this year.

Since the last update, the kids started school! All three kids are doing well in school and keeping busy. Also in September,
Nicholas turned 16! We went (dogs too) to Bear Lake for his birthday weekend, hoping to get in some fun jet skiing on the lake. We rented an adorable KOA cabin, and had lots of fun as a family. The kids had a blast with the miniature golf course and playground on the KOA grounds. Unfortunately, the water was too cold to stay in long and we were not able to rent jet skis. Winter came too early this year! Nick also started dating-that has been an adjustment for us! He’s also been busy with work, and went on a scout campout to Stansbury Island State Park (on the Great Salt Lake) in November. Nick was advanced to a 1st class scout! Nick is hoping to take classes soon to be trained as a swim instructor for the county. This would open up more opportunities for him as a lifeguard and increase his pay as well. For Halloween, Nick was a hippie for his youth group’s ‘retro’ costume contest, and he won 2nd place! In January, Nick had saved up enough money to buy a Nintendo Wii. The entire family has enjoyed playing sports on it.

Alyssa had a busy past four months, very busy. In September she auditioned for a part in a local ballet company’s production of Nutcracker, and was offered two parts! She was a snow sprite, and also in the Sugar Plum court. Classes and rehearsals (three separate locations) began in October and continued through November, with performances running through December. As her two parts were also in two different casts (there were 3 casts total), we were very busy driving her around. Add to this her regular crazy schedule of two clogging teams, ballet, pointe, jazz, and violin, as well as a regular babysitting job, and you can understand why we appreciated a quiet Christmas and Christmas break! It was a wonderful learning experience for her, and she made some great new friends too! Alyssa’s Yaya came from San Diego to see her perform, and Athena’s Nona and Aunt Cathy joined us as well. Alyssa did such a beautiful job dancing, and we were very proud of her! She enjoyed the cast gala at the end of the performances, when they each got a cast t-shirt and poster to have each other sign. While Yaya was here and on one of Alyssa’s rare nights off, we went to Hale Center Theatre’s production of ‘Christmas Carol’, where our friend Caden was performing his second year as Tiny Tim. He did an awesome job again, and Yaya loved watching him and seeing the play in Hale’s great theatre. Back to October, Alyssa was a pink lady from ‘Grease’ for Halloween. Alyssa turned 13 on January 5th! We now have two teenagers and a preschooler in our house! She had a sleepover with some of her friends, including some
