we can check out more on our own cards! Chad is enjoying preschool again this year, and we recently registered for Kindergarten at our local elementary school, Oquirrh Elementary. Unfortunately, it is a year-round school instead of using the traditional school calendar, so who knows which track he will get on. For Halloween, Chad was an adorable dragon! He enjoyed Santa coming, and we all love experiencing the magic of Christmas through his eyes. Chad has enjoyed this winter’s snow, but is finally tiring of it. He had a blast on New Year’s Day, when Athena took our kids sledding with some of the Maynes’ kids. Chad has only been sick twice this winter with his cold to croup to asthma deal (knock on wood), and we finally think we have the right combination of meds to get him through it quicker than before-about five days compared to 2 weeks. Jeff has had an eventful time since the last update. On October 16, he was hit by another car while driving home from work in our minivan. Athena went to the accident site to get him, and was horrified to see the condition of both cars involved (they were totaled). The other driver was cited, we got out everything from the van we wanted, and took Jeff to the emergency room. He had a bump on his head and some whiplash, but checked out okay to go home. He stayed home for three days and ended up in the ER again the next weekend with continued problems. He had some swelling around the lower vertebrae of his spine. He started physical therapy the following week, and just finished this month. After days of poring over sales ads and going to car lots, weighing the pros and cons between an SUV-type vehicle or another minivan, we ended up purchasing the same minivan (yes, boring-we didn’t even get a different color!), just a 1999 instead of a 1994. We got a good replacement price for our totaled van (more than we thought it was worth), and ended up getting a great deal for this newer van, only having to add a few hundred dollars ourselves. It is nice to be driving a newer van with less miles and newer features. One of the features we really like is the sliding doors on each side. As if his car accident were not enough, just as Jeff’s back was starting to feel a little better, in December he slipped on a patch of ice at his part-time job and sprained his wrist badly! He was in a brace for a few weeks. Both his back and wrist still bother him, but less and less as time goes on. Good news for Jeff was his job change on November 1st! He interviewed for a job within the county in October, before his accident, and found out he got the job on the day of his accident! He started on November 1st at Children’s Justice Center, coordinating services for child abuse cases. He works daytime hours now, after three long years working graveyard shift. That has been an adjustment! The other good news is that his new job is only about 2 miles from home, so we are saving on gas, and Jeff can help a lot with taking Chad to school and picking him up, and he often spends his lunch hour at home! Jeff will soon be going to San Diego for a work conference, and bringing Nick with him to spend some time with his grandparents!
